Orléans Métropole

Overview

Orléans Métropole is the intercommunal community that federates 22 municipalities around the central city, Orléans, covering a territory of 334.3 km² and gathering nearly 288,000 inhabitants.
Anchored in a rich environment — between historical heritage, Loire, nature and cities — the metropolis combines quality of life, economic dynamism and territorial attractiveness.
Its ambition: to guarantee a sustainable, modern and supportive living environment while developing the public services and infrastructures necessary for cohesion and development of the territory.

Orléans Métropole’s purpose:

  • Building together a sustainable, supportive and attractive territory, where everyone can live, work and thrive.
  • Promote coherence, solidarity and equity among the 22 municipalities by mobility services and skills to better meet the needs of residents.
  • Ensure sustainable access to essential services: mobility (bus, tram, public transport), water management and sanitation, waste management, urban planning, housing, public spaces, environment…
  • Support economic development, employment, innovation, higher education and training—to promote the attractiveness of the territory, value creation and local employment.
  • Promote ecological transition, quality of life, the living environment, housing, soft mobility and sustainable urban projects to meet environmental and social challenges.
  • Ensure collective participation and shared governance, through the metropolitan council, thematic commissions, and dialogue between elected officials, municipalities, residents, and territorial stakeholders
