🌱 Webinar | Toward a Fossil-Free Chemical Industry: Franco-Swedish Opportunities in the Bioeconomy
The global transition toward a more sustainable future and the achievement of climate goals require a rapid decarbonization of European industry. The chemical sector, at the heart of this transition, faces a unique challenge: unlike other sectors, it cannot simply decarbonize, as carbon is a key building block in the manufacturing of many products. It must instead recarbonize by adopting sustainable, non-fossil carbon sources such as biomass, biogenic CO₂, or recycled materials.
Sweden is particularly well positioned to play a leading role in this transformation thanks to:
- its vast biomass resources,
- its significant sources of biogenic CO₂,
- and its sustainable electricity, among the cheapest in Europe.
To accelerate this transition, the Swedish government has supported the creation of the Bioeconomy Arena, a cutting-edge R&D center inaugurated at the end of 2024. This unique site aims to scale up innovations from lab phase to industrial level.
🎯 Key figures about the Bioeconomy Arena:
- 20 brand new state-of-the-art pilot facilities,
- Enhanced capacities for thermochemical and biochemical processes,
- Solutions for CO₂ capture and electrochemical conversion.
