Origin & History of PEXE

Who are we?

PEX Network – The Eco-Enterprises of France

PEXE is the national association of clusters, competitiveness poles, and professional associations in the sectors of environment, energy, and circular economy.

Our members bring together nearly 6,000 companies in the eco-activity sector, united in a collective approach within the PEXE network.

History of PEXE

Building on the Eco-Enterprises Export Plan, a public policy supporting eco-enterprises (2002 – 2007 Ministry of Industry – Ministry of Environment – ADEME – Ubifrance), a 1901 law association was created in 2008: Association for the Promotion and Development of Eco-Enterprises in France – abbreviated PEXE Association.

Several national clusters, regional eco-enterprises networks, ADEME, as well as AFD, OSEO, and the Assembly of French Chambers of Commerce and Industry were founding members. In 2009, the association’s statutes were modified, notably removing the founding member status and redefining the categories of members (now reserved for structures bringing together eco-enterprises: competitiveness poles, clusters, associations, and professional federations). From that point, ADEME and other public institutions no longer had membership status and joined the Strategic Orientation Committee, which gathers public authorities, research actors, and investors.

PEXE is a space for exchanging best practices and high-value information, where concrete action plans are developed to support businesses and foster inter-cluster collaborations, aimed at creating jobs in the sector and strengthening its territorial presence.
